SLED asked to investigate overnight brush fire in Berkeley County; road remains closed

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – State police have been asked to investigate the cause of an overnight Berkeley County brush fire.

Charity Church Road remains closed to traffic in both directions between Cainhoy Road and Highway 41 because of an active brush fire, which began around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

The cause of the fire remains unknown; however, Berkeley County officials told News 2 that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been contacted to investigate.

County officials added that no homes were threatened by the fire, and no injuries have been reported.

People are asked to avoid the area as the road is expected to be closed for several more hours. Drivers in the area may see smoke and reduced visibility.
