CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Closing arguments will get underway Monday in the trial of a former Charleston County deputy facing three reckless homicide charges.
Emily Pelletier is accused of crashing into a vehicle and killing a woman and her two daughters on Mother’s Day 2022.
Authorities said Pelletier was responding to a disabled motorist call when she drove through a stop sign on New Road and onto Highway 17, hitting the vehicle carrying Stephanie Dantzler, her daughters, Shanice and Miranda Dantzler-Williams.
All three were killed.
Multiple witnesses delivered testimony during last week’s proceedings, including the driver of the disabled vehicle, the first deputy to arrive at the crash, and troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol who responded to the incident or investigated the accident.
Pelletier also recalled the crash on Friday, saying she did not see the stop sign before driving onto the highway and had looked down at her “CAD” computer to get the latest information on the vehicle she was responding to.
Closing arguments are set for Monday, and the judge will give the jury instructions before deliberations begin.
