President Trump marks first 100 days in office
WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Congress returns from recess this week as President Donald Trump marks his first 100 days in office. The White House is making a strong push on key priorities.
President Trump is headed to Michigan for a rally. It’s a state that helped him win the White House. The visit comes as new polling shows troubling signs for the president’s approval ratings.
“This week marks the first 100 days of the Trump presidency and President Trump’s first 100 days, have undoubtedly been the most monumental and historic of any administration in American history,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Outside the White House Monday, the administration put up posters of undocumented immigrants accused of committing crimes.
“You can’t have national security if you don’t have strong border security, we got to know who’s coming in,” said White House border czar Tom Homan.
Over the weekend, DEA agents raided a nightclub in Colorado, saying they arrested more than 100 undocumented migrants and seized drugs and weapons.
On Capitol Hill, Republicans are working to advance the president’s budget, which includes increased military spending and funding for immigration enforcement.
“I think it is going to be a great piece of legislation that will solve problems, turbo boost for the economy and looking forward to getting that done,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).
Democrats are offering a much different view of the president’s first 100 days.
“The first 100 days of the Trump administration have been characterized by chaos, cruelty, and corruption,” said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).
