BCSO to discuss new ordinances ahead of Memorial Day weekend
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is cracking down on illegal activity ahead of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Sheriff Duane Lewis told News 2 that the sheriff’s office is working to get ahead of what they called nuisance nightclubs in the county. A new ordinance will help regulate nightclubs and weed out illicit establishments.
With many expected to go camping at various areas in the county over the holiday weekend, the sheriff’s office said it will monitor where people pitch their tents.
Deputies will work to ensure everyone understands where camping is – and is not – permitted.
The sheriff’s office will also be closely monitoring boat landings. The agency said it is prepared to close boat landings once they reach capacity and reminded everyone about how new ordinances impact things like drinking, grilling, or starting fires at the landings.
For example, you cannot obstruct a landing or swim within 50 feet of one.
The sheriff’s office will discuss these new ordinances during a news conference Thursday morning.
